Hysterosalpingography (HSG) is a quick outpatient procedure used to check the uterus and fallopian tubes. During the test, the doctor gently inserts a thin catheter through the cervix and slowly injects a special contrast dye into the uterus. As the dye flows through the uterine cavity and fallopian tubes, X-ray images are taken to see whether the tubes are open and the uterus has a normal shape.
